[Don't] Watch Where You Step

I am used to stepping in cat puke or on a dead mouse or anything my cats or dogs bring in (or up).  That is why I am surprised that this morning when my foot brushed against the furry part of my slipper, I jumped and screamed thinking it was a mouse! You'd think I'd be used it it by now.

Friday Favorite Fives

Happy Friday Everyone!! I didn't put in my “five faves” last week but I assure you, I had “faves”. It was a wonderful Thanksgiving week and I had many, many things to give “thanks” for.

My Favorite Fives for This Week:

Monday!! Yes, I said Monday. I usually loathe Mondays simply for the fact that after a nice weekend, I don't want to have to get back into the routine of getting up early (I am not, after all, a morning person). But this particular Monday I was looking forward to. On Thanksgiving week, I had 5 days off.....5 days!! Wednesday through Sunday (I don't work weekends but am counting those days). I had a wonderful little vacation; spending time with my hubsand, resting, decorating for Christmas and visiting with friends. However, I did miss my daycare kids so Monday was a day I was looking forward to.

Time with Friends (always a fave!). On Tuesday evening, my husband and I had dinner and dessert with my cousins who are also good friends of ours.
Time with Dogs. I've enjoyed walking the dogs with my husband. Our new addition, Cole, is a very good dog and him and Luke get along very well. We take them every morning and every evening to a nice trail along the Canal nearby our home. They love it and my husband and I get to spend time together!!

Blessings of God. We have had an ongoing problem in our Jeep which had something to do with the fan. My husband replaced the something-or-other awhile ago and it “went” again so he spent $160.00 last week for the parts again. Him and my cousin worked hours on replacing this part and still the motor relay (whatever that is) “blew” (that part is $56.00). So my husband had to take the Jeep to a shop, expecting a $200-300 bill. When he told me what to expect, I told God “I praise You anyway; You are good no matter what”. Well, my husband came home later holding a receipt for a bill that was only $76.00!! God IS good...but He would still be good if the bill happened to be $200-300.

This Weekend. On Saturday morning, I get my 2 daycare brothers (ages 3 and 6 months) all day and overnight til Sunday while the parents go away. Not only do I earn some extra money but I get to “play mommy” too! My good friend, Hope, and I are going to take the baby shopping with us on Saturday while the older child is at a birthday party. I can't wait!!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!!!

Friday Favorite Fives

Happy Friday everyone!!  Here are my five favorites......

My Sister's Visit
As I mentioned last week, my sister was here for a visit from Wisconsin. She is 14 months older than I and I usually only see her once a year. We had a fabulous visit!! We went to a small theater (local) and saw a production of “Arsenic and Old Lace” which was so good! We took walks, dined, and stayed up late chatting. I was very sad to see her leave and look forward to a visit next year!!

Me, Grandma, Leah, Mom

Border Collies!
My husband and I decided to adopt Cole, the 1-1/2 year old Border Collie that we fostered for a few days. Now we have TWO Border Collies; Luke (3) and Cole. Seriously it's double trouble but they are so much fun and Joe walks them twice a day and I do playtime in the yard (ball, frisbee, etc). Cole seems really happy here and I am glad we took him back from the farm and decided to adopt him. He is very loveable and is eager to learn and be loved.

Cole

New (old) Book
I went to an indoor garage sale this week and bought an old book for 50 cents. I have never read this author's novels but am enjoying it thoroughly. It's called The Road to Paradise Island by Victoria Holt. Fascinating novel and I highly recommend it!!

About this book. “Annalice Mallory, the sheltered daughter of a family of map makers, discovers the cryptic diary of her long-dead ancestor that includes a map of a mysterious far-of island. Philip, Annalice's brother, sets sail for the island, lured by the promise of incomparable riches to be found. But when he doesn't return, Annalice sets out to find him – and the secrets of the diary -- in a desperate journey that leads her through the worlds' most exciting outposts . . . and finally to the tropical islands of the South Seas, where she encounters heart-stopping peril, but also the promise of love.” (taken from paperbackswap.com)

Dinner at Gram's
My grandmother hasn't cooked much since my grandfather passed away a year and a half ago but sometimes she surprises us and cooks a yummy meal! This week she made Galumpki (sp?), a good old Polish dish; hamburg mixture cooked inside cabbage. YUM. Haven't had that in a long time so that was a yummy treat!

Movie Night with my Husband
My stepdaughter, Amber, is having a friend stay overnight tonight and they rented two movies so I rented “The Secret Window” (starring Johnny Depp) for my husband and I to watch. We've seen this movie but have wanted to watch it again because it was confusing at first. It's been a very long time since we had movie night together.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!!

Cat and Mouse (Mice!)

Ahhh, what a night (or I should say "morning).

I woke up at 2:30am to my cat, Gordon (the hunter) running around my room.  I thought he was just playing with his toys but when my husband turned on the light, he found out Gordon was chasing a mouse.  I covered my head with a pillow trying to ignore the goings-on around me but my husband decided to give me a play-by-play.  Finally, Gordon caught the mouse, played with it then ate half of it.  Joe, totally grossed out, stormed downstairs to get supplies to clean up the mess and rid of the carcass, while I sat in bed listening to Gordon throw up what he ate of little Mr. Mouse.  Joe came back upstairs to see the vomit and was even more annoyed (enraged?).  I cleaned up the vomit and the mouse and went back to bed.  A little later, Gordon was chasing ANOTHER mouse.  This time he lost it.  By then, Joe was too disgusted to remain in that room so he slept downstairs on the couch.

When I got up this morning, I didn't reach for my glasses before proceeding to my closet to get my clothes.  As I was walking towards the closet, Joe was coming into the bedroom and said "You just stepped over another dead mouse".  Aughhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note to self....put glasses on BEFORE getting out of bed!!

My Five Favorites!!!!

Happy Friday everyone!!  Here are my five favorites......

Beautiful Fall Weather!
Most of the week we have had gorgeous weather, in the 50's and 60's.  I spent a lot of time outside playing with my dog, walking and hiking!

Border Collies!
My husband and I have a Border Collie, Luke (who is 3 yrs old today!!) but this week we fostered a 1-1/2 yr old Border Collie, Cole, who we saved from neglect.  Two Border Collies are a LOT of work but my husband had Cole trained in a day and a half and Luke had a friend for a couple of days.  I LOVE Cole but I know he is best with a family on a farm where he can run and be free since all of his life up til this week was spent in a crate 20 hours a day.  People can be so cruel (and dumb!).  I cried when my husband took him to the farm but happy because I know he'll have a better life.  Two Border Collies, two cats and a daycare at home is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much for me thank-you-very-much!!

Cole and Luke

Laughing with Friends!
We had our bi-weekly Bible Study on Wednesday night this week since Friday we are busy.  We are still going through the book of Daniel.  Good times with friends, as usual.  However, for some reason, my friend "H" and I could NOT stop laughing...almost hysterically!!  We'd burst into fits of laughter out of nowhere!  At one point I thought I'd pee my pants...lol, it can happen.  I haven't laughed that hard in a VERY long time and it was probably the best laugh I had EVER!!

Chili!
My husband made chili dinner for us this week and it was the best chili I have ever had!  We don't put kidney beans in ours.  Our chili consists of Joe's own sauce (like tomato pastes and crushed tomatos, etc) and spices; hamburg and sausage; peppers and onions.  YUM!!!

And my most most most favorite of this week is................

Visit from My Sister!!
My sister (who is 14 months older than I) lives in Wisconsin and I see her once a year if I am lucky. Last year I saw her twice. I had a planned visit for August, but she flew to NY in June for my grandfather's funeral. So two visits in one year was great (even if her flying here wasn't for a happy occasion). She is visiting for a week and staying at our house. She flew in on Thursday and tonight her and my grandmother and I are going to the Ilion Theater to see a play called “Arsenic and Old Lace”!! Tomorrow is shopping then dinner out. I love spending time with my sister and every moment is precious!!!

Me and my sister, Leah

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Belt Blues

Last week I went to a concert.  I wore a sweater over my turtleneck and the sweater had a belt which I allowed to hang loose, as apparently was the style of this particular sweater.

While walking into the Church, I didn't realize that the belt hung to the ground and was dragging in the mud and snow.  When we sat down at our pew, I sat on the belt, causing it to soak my rear end a little.

Later, I went to the bathroom and as I was sitting down on the pot, the belt (same side as previously wet) dropped into the toilet (luckily it was before I "went") and I quickly pulled it out but it was too late; the belt end was soaked {{gag}}.  After returning to my seat, I quickly stuffed the belt in my purse.

So in conclusion, my "tip of the day" is.....when a sweater belt is long enough to drag on the ground and/or fall into a toilet, TIE IT!

Friday's Fave Five

Happy Friday everyone!! I hope everyone had a good week. Mine was pretty good and as always, I found many blessings each day, even if the day wasn't going my way. It helps for me to sit and pray and find the blessings, even “small” on a particular day (or days) that are not going well. My favorite fives are actually a favorite each day (or evening) out of this past week!!  Friday's Fave Five is hosted by:

Birthday dinner and cake!
My mother's birthday was Monday, so my husband (Joe) and I made dinner (chicken/broccoli casserole, our own thrown together recipe) and brought it up to my grandmother's house to share with mom and gram. I also made a yellow cake from scratch and it came out so good!! Bought the frosting because I have yet to attempt frosting from scratch - so in the meantime, it's all Moist Deluxe, thank-you-very-much.

Dinner and fellowship
On Tuesday, a young man from our church visited our home. My husband made one of his wonderful homeade pizzas and I made brownies (box mix, haha). We ate, talked about Scripture, and then Joe and him went to our “guitar room” and “jammed” for awhile. Not only did I enjoy the fellowship, my husband's mood was lighter because of the fellowship and “jam session” (and I didn't even cover my ears, no matter how loud the guitar playing!!).

Comfy and cozy
Wednesday evening I had no obligations and no place to go. It was a rainy, gloomy, cool evening so after my daycare kids left, I curled up in my jammies with a good book (can't remember what it was called but it was good) and enjoyed not having anything to do but read!

Thursday evening was the best of the week. My mother, grandmother, and our family friend Paul, drove to Immanuel Baptist Church to attend a Booth Brother's concert. The Booth Brothers are a trio of awesome singers from the south who used to be part of the Gaithers and I believe still sing with them on occasion. We expected a simple singing concert but we got so much more!

First, a group we haven't heard of, called Declaration (see Declaration.com) sang for us. They are a trio of young men (ahh younger than myself I believe) and are really good and I was drawn to tears when they sang “Blessed Assurance” (one of my faves!!). So happy that the “old” hymns are not “dead”, especially to this generation.

Next, a young (beautiful) woman named Sherry Anne sang for us and gave her testimony. Again, I was brought to tears because some things I have recently been going through were things she talked about! Man, that could only be God! Then she sang “I Will Rise” as a tribute to the 24 year old former soldier and cop, Kurt Wyman (who was shot and killed on duty). His picture (in uniform) was on the large screen in the background while she sang. She did such a wonderful job I was moved to tears by her singing alone, then for 2 other reasons. First because of the tragedy that took Kurt Wyman (but he is with Jesus now, we know that) and second because the song says “I will rise, when he calls my name” and that just moves me so much. She sang a few more songs and then introduced the Booth Brothers who performed last but not least. They were wonderful; songs, Scripture and prayer.

The entire night was such a blessing. I had a chance to talk to Sherry Anne and she is a wonderful woman used by God and she was a huge blessing to me. Please check out her website http://sherryanne.com/

Hannaford Happenings
My last fave is kind of silly. It happened today (Friday) while I was at Hannaford. After a frustrating annoyance in the parking lot waiting for and wondering what an elderly woman was doing behind the wheel when she didn't seem to know how to drive and almost ran into me while trying to park, I drove around to another row and spotted a place to park but last minute I kept going forward then turned left into a different spot, realizing I almost cut off someone who was in front of me looking to park. As I shut the jeep off, I looked to my right to see the car I cut off was parking near me. We got out of our vehicles at the same time and as I walked from my jeep, he (the man I cut off; a man in his 50's I think) scurried along side me and I said “I am so sorry, I almost cut you off!” (expecting the middle finger or yelling from him) and he looked at me, put his hand on my shoulder while we walked, and said “Oh that's ok, not a problem at all.” Phew! Then he said “How are you today?” (umm....good? Lol) and I said “Um good now thanks” and he said “I'm shopping on my lunch hour, gotta hurry. Have a good day.”. He hurried into the store. What a nice man!! He could have reamed me out for my bad driving but instead made me feel good!! I almost stood there with my mouth wide open but walked into the store and prayed for that man. There really are good people out there!!

So there ya have it. My five faves. Hoping and praying y'all have a great weekend and don't forget to count all your blessings, no matter how “small” they may seem to you, because I like to think that God doesn't think any of His blessings are too small for us.

Have you ever......

1. Wondered why your water wasn't boiling on the stove then find out you turned the wrong burner on...OR.....forgot to turn any burner on?

2. Plug the curling iron in, come back later to curl your hair and wonder why it's not working...because you forgot to turn it ON

3. Put something in the fridge that belonged in the cupboard, or vice versa?

I thought so.  Those silly things and so many more are what makes life FUN!!

Happy Friday!! My Five Favorites....

Coloring with my husband. One morning, my husband sat at the kitchen table and began to color; alone. So my daycare kids colored along with him, then when they took their naps I colored with him. He colored for hours!! It was fun and relaxing.

My roses. I thought my two rosebushes would not produce any more roses this season but alas, I had 2 gorgeous white roses pop up this week. I enjoyed smelling them all week and looking at them.

My White Roses

Boys. I acquired two new boys for my daycare (brothers). They are 2-1/2 and 4 yrs old and a lot of fun. Except for one girl, I have ALL boys in my daycare!

Stepson. My stepson is driving home from RIT this weekend; we are all going to Fly Creek Cider Mill on Saturday then having lunch with friends after church on Sunday.

Visiting with friends. Tonight is “game night” at a friend's house. Dessert and games with my husband, stepdaughter and our two favorite people!

Happy Friday everyone!!!

Friday Favorite Fives!!

Happy Friday everyone!!  I hope everyone enjoyed this past week and will have a fun weekend.  Here are my favorite fives from this week (and also see my other blog post for "Toddler Talk").

Surprise phone call from my stepson who is in college (his 1st year at Rochester Institute of Technology). I had a really crummy day and the phone call was to see how we were doing and I was thrilled!!

My mother!! I had suffered 3 days in a row with an awful headache and on the 3rd day, my mother stopped over after work just to drop off a gift bag to me!! She gave me candy bars, stickers, notepads, a beautiful Fall placemat decoration from Better Homes and Gardens, and my favorite magazine! What a fun blessing!!

Coffee with a friend (lol, that's always on my five faves). Can't let headaches inturrupt the blessings of friendship and coffee!!

Bible study tonight with close friends. That is always my favorite because I love our friends and the fellowship. We are reading through the book of Daniel now. First we will have dinner and dessert and I look forward to sitting at the table in the cozy kitchen of my friends' home!

My husband. My dear husband has been so patient with me all week while I suffered (and am currently suffering) with these awful headaches. He went to the grocery store for me, he made dinners and allowed me to go to bed early without complaint. I am so blessed to have a man who is so helpful and loving!!

Toddler Talk

A conversation during coloring time; two toddlers talking about princes and princesses.  "My" little boy saying he wanted to be a princess.

Me:  Boys cannot be princesses.  A princess is a girl, a prince is a boy.  You can be a prince.

[pause]........

Him:  I have eyebrows!!!

lol well then!

Friday's Fave Five

It's a cool morning but the sky is blue and the sun is shining!!  Happy Friday everyone!  I had a pretty crummy week but as I usually do, I found some blessings in it though I am sure there were a ton more.  Here are my five faves:

1.  Coffee with friends one evening.  This was a day where my husband and I really needed this fellowship and even though I had a headache, I went along and we had a great time.  AND.....I used Pumpkin Spice cremora in my coffee!  YUM....it was my first time and now I am in love with Pumpkin Spice!!

2.  Dinner with family.  Mom and Grandma came over to our house the other evening and my husband made a wonderful meal of "lemon sticky chicken" (Gordon Ramsey recipe) and garlic mashed potatos....YUM.  Gram brought a store-bought strawberry ruhbarb pie with whipped cream and we had coffee, pie and worked on the Evening Telegram crossword puzzle together (a tradition since Grandpa was alive).

3.  Coloring with my daycare toddlers one morning and listening to their hilarious conversations.  For example, my 3-yr old boy insisted that Santa Claus had an "askident" (aka "accident") and cannot deliver toys this year because he has no hands; he has "paws"...hahahaaaaaaaaaa.  Another funny was two of the toddlers bantering back and forth about a favorite crayon and saying "Jesus said share".  HAHAHAA.

4.  Beautiful Fall weather this week; cool, crisp yet sunny with blue sky!!  LOVE IT!!

5.  My most fave will come this evening when our guests come over for a yummy beef stew dinner, coffee and a Fall dessert, and our Bible study!!

Happy Friday everyone!!!

One Rainy Evening......

Last night, I visited my grandmother and found out that a 74 yr old man had been found dead on his property which was on a road off of grandma's road.  They're ruling it as "suspicious" and suspecting a murder!!  Needless to say, I was a little freaked out about that.  Left gram's in the rain (light rain for the time being) and went to grocery shop at Hannaford.  While there, I heard pounding on the roof and thought "great, now it's pouring".  Finished up shopping and walked out.  A man was lurking about in the frontway of Hannaford and immediately I had fear, thinking of murderers about and the fact that it was past 8pm and I had to walk to my vehicle in the pouring rain and dark!!!  I scurried to my Jeep, hurrying to put groceries away; hurrying because I didn't want to be murdered and also because of the downpour!!  While loading groceries, the cheap Hannaford bag broke and of course it was the bag that contained all canned products!  Down, down the parking lot they rolled, me chasing after them muttering under my breath.  Caught the cans, trudged back to the Jeep (now soaking wet) and threw the remaining groceries inside.  As soon as I pulled into my driveway at home, the rain came down so hard I cannot find a word to express it.  My husband was nowhere to be found in the house which meant me running back and forth from Jeep to house to unload groceries.

What a night!  On a good note.....I was not murdered and I managed to save all of my canned goods!!

Friday Favorite Fives!

My Friday favorites consist of five blessings. This week was not so good; oh, nothing major but all the little inconveniences of life along with disobedient toddlers and cranky babies. But one day in the middle of the week, “hump day” you may call it, there were five blessings (I'm sure there were more than five if I really looked hard enough, but five that stood out and practically smacked me in the face).

On Wednesday, the worst and best day of my week, my five blessings came to me. It had been an awful morning; kids misbehaving, the baby extremely fussy and not sleeping, and of all things, I ran out of coffee (I know, GASP right?). My husband was at a friend's house helping him out with some work so I couldn't even ask him to go to the store for me or help me with the kids. I complained on Facebook about my coffee situation; I complained in my heart of all the bad days I had so far this week; and I even complained to God.

Finally, all the kids were napping. Phew, it was quiet at last. Then lo and behold, my cousin knocked at my door and there she stood, holding a large cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee. WOW...I just...WOW. My first blessing smacked me in the face. Wednesday was my cousin's birthday but because she knew (thanks to Facebook) that I hadn't any coffee and “was dying without it”, she went out of her way to buy me a large coffee. What a sweetheart!!

Sipping on my coffee, I sat at my computer to play my favorite game, Words with Friends on Facebook. While playing, I got a phone call from my cousin asking Joe and I to join her and her husband for dinner at their house that evening. Whoa!! Blessing number two right there, seeing as money has been tight lately and our “big” grocery shopping can't happen for another 10 days.

My third blessing was that all of my daycare kids (babies included) slept (napped) for 3 solid hours!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....coffee, Words with Friends, and some reading while peace and quiet.

My husband later came home and had a lottery scratch off card; a winner worth $8.00. My great-aunt had won and gave the card to Joe. That $8.00 will buy a nice, big can of coffee!!! Blessing number four.

And last but not least, blessing five, was getting an email from a friend telling me she had recently gotten some grocery items that her and her husband do not use and were going to give to the food pantry, but asked if we wanted them instead.

It's the little things in life, folks. It's the blessings throughout each day that we may not see because we are too busy worrying or being angry at what we don't have at the moment. God is good. God is good all of the time. We just need to open our eyes and see it, and receive it.

Have your cake and eat it too.....

So I made a cake the other day....from scratch.  Oh yes, this gal made a cake from scratch!  That has never happened before and I was nervous but the recipe seemed easy enough.  First I needed a mixer.  Surprisingly, I had a hand mixer in my cupboard.  Huh, imagine that!  I have never used a mixer though, and wasn't sure if I need to put the blades in first then start it or start it and lower it in the bowl.  I "wung it" and started it first.   Turns out, I had a blast making this yellow cake from scratch, watching all the ingredients come together so nicely.

The cake ended up tasting very good though I did have store bought frosting.  Hey, the frosting from scratch will come next.  Don't wanna overwhelm myself!!

My Friday Favorites

This is my first time doing the Five Favorites (or is is Favorite Five?), but I am excited. I hope you enjoy reading about my five favorites as much as I am going to enjoy writing about them.

TRAINS
I live a few blocks away from train tracks and I love hearing the roar of the trains in the evening, especially when I am sitting on my back porch swing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
My husband and I threw a little birthday party for one of my daycare children who turned 4 this week. My husband made his “famous” homeade pizza, the child's mother brought cupcakes and we decorated the house with balloons and birthday signs. The children played with balloons and enjoyed pizza and cupcakes and plenty of laughs.

SCRABBLE, ANYONE?
I have become addicted to Words with Friends on Facebook which is pretty much another name for “Scrabble”. My husband has also become addicted and we play daily. Encouraged by my playing skills, I borrowed a “real” Scrabble game from my grandmother (grandpa used to love playing Scrabble). My cat Gordon, however, has taken a liking to it as well.

                                                                                               my cat, Gordon

COFFEE AND FRIENDS
Your week surely cannot be complete unless you share a couple of hours with a friend over a nice, steamy cup of coffee.

FALL
And finally, my most favorite for this week and the season is the beautiful cooler weather to walk in; enjoying the smells of Fall coming and the crunch of the leaves getting more crisp by each day.

Thank you for enjoying my favorites with me!!!

Little inconviences

A few inconveniences:

1.  While washing the dishes, get the sudden urge to potty

2.  Not being able to find a dishtowel to dry your hands

3.  Having to remove the kid seat from the toilet and clean toilet before sitting down, therefore causing you to almost go in your pants

4.  Getting ready to sit on the pot, only to find your drawstring is knotted tightly

Watch where you step

I will go back to yesterday morning.......

I came downstairs around 6:30am to get ready for my day.  I walked into the Kitchen with a big "sigh", as I spotted....what else?  Cat vomit.  Ahh lovely.  After cleaning that up, I went about my business of preparing for the daycare kids to arrive.  On my way into the Kitchen for my coffee, I spotted something on the carpet in the Dining Room.....hmmm, I hadn't seen that yet this morning.  So I bent down just a little and thought it was a dead mouse, therefore I crouched down to get a better look.  ACK!!!  It was NOT a dead mouse; it was a dead......bird.  That was a new one.  Haven't seen that in my house yet.  I am used to dead mice (thanks to my best hunter, Gordon).  But I really don't appreciate birds in my house.

That was the way my day began yesterday.  And throughout the day I had a grumpy husband and crying babies.  BLAH.  Oh and did you know that when one baby cries and the other one gets startled, that one cries too?  Really loud.  Ear piercingly loud.  Ya, good times.

To top off the day, my little daycare girl didn't make it to the potty in time.  Almost, but not quite.  I crouched down and was just putting her on the potty and she began to pee.   Fine....but did it really need to get on my leg?  Yeah.

Here's to hoping today is a better day!!

Hello Friends

The month of August was awfully busy, especially towards the end....my stepson leaving for college and my aunt from TN visiting.  They were nice, fun weeks despite the business.

Last Sunday was a very rainy day, thanks to Hurricane Irene.  I woke up at 11:23 a.m. (!!) and lazed around most of the day and played Words with Friends on FB.  Later, my husband put together my new Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner he bought me and I was super excited to use it (and I normally hate to vacuum!!).  Then we began to do some rearranging, mostly to accommodate the daycare.  So we rearranged and vacuumed.  Then off to Walmart in pouring rain to buy a small can of paint (for what, I cannot remember) and two new pillows!  Yes, we lead exciting lives.  But it's the little things (new vacuum, spending rainy day with husband, and getting new pillows) that make me happy.

Monday thru Thursday was spent cleaning in preparation for upcoming weekend visitors.  Friday our visitors arrived and we had a great weekend (they came from out of state and we haven't seen them in years!!).  On Sunday (yesterday), my husband and I drove out to my stepson's college for a tour/visit.  Beautiful campus and nice time spent with Joey.

Today is Labor Day and I am NOT laboring...hahaha.  I am, in fact, relaxing.  Playing Words with Friends, drinking coffee (but not too much) and reading.

Now that the busy summer is behind me, I will be more consistent with my writing; both my blog and my novel writing.  Two novels and one childrens' book will keep me busy this fall/winter!!

A day with the boys

Last week was busy so I am just getting to post this now.  On Thursday, I had a helper for my daycare so that during naptimes for the littlest cherubs, I could take my 2 older boys (ages 4 and 6) out for a romp around Herkimer.  First we went to the Library where we went into the children's section and my 4 year old proceeded to pull as many books from the shelves as he possibly could manage and plopped them onto the kiddie table.  Then he tried to put them back in the same spot he pulled them from.  Yeah....wasn't happening.

Next, we went to the Farmer's Market where the two boys were quite well behaved, but talking in silly tones and I was just slightly embarrassed but loved the fact that they were having fun.  One woman at a fruit stand commented on "my" cute boys.

Off we went to Fastrac....and I do NOT recommend taking a 4 and 6 yr old to Fastrac or ANY place where there is candy and chips and soda galore!!  My 4 yr old walked around the store stating loudly that he was going to get candy for his treat.  And candy he got.  We finally made our way back to my house where we watched a movie.  No nap for those two....which proved to be not cool for the 4 year old by time his mom picked him up.  All in all, we had a good day

Walkin' the Dog

I have shared with FB friends my dog-walking tips such as "do not walk your dog before morning coffee" and "do not walk your dog while wearing sandals"; as well as experiences such as walking under the train bridge and a train suddenly roaring by (I, by the way, screamed and started to run....with the dog of course).

Well here is an account of our walk tonight.  During our walk, Luke suddenly came to a HALT.  Stood dead still on the sidewalk and would not move no matter how much I pulled at his leash.  Why?  Because there was a dog walking towards us who was, by the way, so small that my dog could eat him in two bites if he chose to.

A few minutes down the road, we are walking by a house that had a mother and child on the front porch.  The child on the porch was playing and made a loud noise with his toy and Luke, startled, jumped out in front of me nearly causing me to topple over!

And finally, we are about to walk by another human and Luke lags slowly behind me, afraid to walk by the person.  I am pulling on his leash, coaxing him along, and quite embarrassed because my dog is supposed to protect me!

So there you have it.  My 60 lb Border Collie who is afraid of everything but his own shadow.

Rude Awakening

I normally wake up in the morning prior to my alarm clock to my cat meowing for food (that would be Sam).

This morning, I heard him meowing but was still in dreamland so I was a little disoriented.  I opened my eyes and WHOA there was a Sam right in my face, just staring.  And waiting.  And um, yeah.

Do as I say.....

I have always been all for saying "Do as I say....." even though I am pretty sure it's "Do as I do...".

Recently, however, I found 3 coffee mugs (some with a bit of old coffee sticking to the sides), 2 glasses and 1 cup in my bedroom and 2nd floor bathroom.  I had to chuckle because I am always "on" my stepkids for picking up after themselves and not leaving dishes in their rooms.

Perhaps I should do as I say!!

......

So I was in bed this morning thinking that my Friday blog post was going to announce that I haven't seen nor stepped in any animal vomit in a few days.  Yay!

Then I walked out of my bedroom; and spotted it.

Blah.  Happy Friday everyone!!

A book worth finishing....

I stayed up well past midnight reading (and finishing) an awesome novel, Deception by Randy Alcorn.  Deception is a Christian fiction novel (murder mystery) with so many twists and turns, you probably won't guess "who done it".

I'm so tired this morning I can barely keep my eyes open but it was well worth it!!

Pretendin' I don't See....

I tried to outsmart my family by saying "the first person to go upstairs has to carry the laundry basket up" or (my personal fav) "the first person to see the cat/dog puke has to clean it up".............my family is too smart for that.  They all pretend they are not the first to see and I end up doing it myself!!!!  Hahahaaaaa!!  Hmm.

Saturday

Good afternoon.  Let me first say that this day has certainly not gone the way I intended.  I woke up at 6:30am, realized it was Saturday, and happily drifted back off to sleep.  My husband brought me coffee in bed some time later; I thanked him and rolled over and drifted back to sleep.  Woke up later to realize it was 10:15am!!  [GASP] I did NOT want to sleep that late.  First of all, my coffee was cold and gross; second, my plans for the day, which included the following, were shot:
1.  Get up at a decent time (8am at the latest) and enjoy coffee while I read my Bible
2.  Take Luke for a nice walk before the humidity/heat set in
3.  Go to Walmart to buy bird seed and mulch for my roses
4.  Help my stepson go through his room and organize/pack for college while Joe and Amber painted her room

No....instead, this is what happened.  I woke LATE to find that the coffee in the pot was hours old.  Made new coffee and while that was brewing, took the dog for a long walk (because apparently no one else in my family can walk him????).  Returned home, ran out to Walmart with my husband, came home to shower and run to the grocery store.  My stepson took off for the day to ride bikes with a friend.....so much for going through his room.  Joe and Amber have been painting all day and my allergies are kicking in so high that I am still super tired and very annoyed at the day.  Rush, rush rush, angry, angry, angry, complain, complain, complain!!

As I sit here now, sipping on coffee (it's well into the afternoon) I realize that not once since I woke up did I slow down and enjoy the day that God gave me.  I have not yet thanked Him for the beauty around me or my family or anything else.  I have not once picked up my Bible today or even talked to God.  Shame on me!  I have been so self absorbed and in such a complaining mood that I have missed half a day because I didn't put God first.

That, my friends, is something I will be careful not to do again.  Shame on us for jumping out of bed and rushing/complaining through the day without giving our Maker our first thoughts!

To sleep....or not to sleep

I am running on very little sleep which I suppose is pretty much my own fault for worrying about a cat.  But he is my cat nonetheless, so I....wait, let me start at the beginning.

Last night, about 9:30pm, my cat, Gordon, wanted to go outside.  We don't let the cats out when it's dark because that is when they wander out of the yard.  However, after several times of attempting to get out, Gordon tired of me pushing him out of the way and finally jumped up on my leg and latched on.  Ahhh, psycho cat strikes again (I have numerous scars from this cat).  So...OUT he went.  See ya!!  I huffed away and went to bed (making sure I told Joe that Gordon was outside).

Ahhh, but after 20 minutes of lying in bed (with my other cat Samson sleeping next to me) I had to get up and check on Gordon.  Alas, he was not in the yard (which is fenced in but the cats can jump the chain link fence on the other side).  Phooey!!  This gal needed her sleep!!  I'm sure any "normal" person would have set a bowl of water on the back porch and went to bed not giving the wanderer a second thought.  Not this gal....I am not so normal.  I donned my purple, satin bathrobe, and set out in the yard with a flashlight to search for pyscho...I mean Gordon. After 15 minutes of calling and looking, I gave up.  Again, I huffed into the house, told Joe "FORGET IT" and went to bed.

After lying in bed wide awake for another 20 minutes, I finally said a prayer (yes, a prayer for my cat) and drifted off to dream land (which isn't usually a good place to be but more on my dreams later).

This morning, I climbed out of bed, opened my bedroom door, and there sat Gordon.  Healthy.  Happy.  And safe.

Good (??) Morning....

Well, this is the 2nd time writing this because I lost the first one...somehow...which proves the type of morning I am having!!

Good morning blog world!  Allow me to fill you in on my morning.  My cat, Samson, thinks it's cute to meow in my face at awful hours of the morning because he is hungry.  So I get out of bed and stumble out of my room, only to crack my head on the nick-knack shelf on the wall outside of my bedroom door.  I have to say, as hard as my head hit that thing, I felt no pain and was not rendered unconscious.  Hm.  So down the stairs I went, headed towards the food dish stepping in cat vomit on the way.  Goodie.  I had bare feet of course because I don't like wearing socks and who wears socks in the summer anyway?  Fed the cat and stumbled back to bed.  Alas, the alarm soon reminded me to get up and get ready.  Downstairs I went (again) watching where I stepped this time, headed to the lovely coffee pot.  Another pile of cat vomit on the kitchen floor but I saw it first!

As I picked up the coffee pot to pour a nice, steaming brew into my cup, I notice there is OLD coffee in the pot.  Alas, I had forgotten the night before to get my coffee ready.  Wahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  All is good, though, because I made a fresh pot (only dropping a few grounds on the kitchen floor).

Now I sit here with my warm cup of coffee (with cinnamon vanilla cremora) safely waiting for my little ones to arrive.   It is definitely Joe's turn to walk the dog this morning, as this gal needs to sit right here where it is safe.

Shopping....with my husband

Normally I don't like shopping (grocery) with my husband.  He usually ends up rushing me (or I FEEL rushed, rather) but this time it was.....different.

Joe volunteered to shop with me (!!) which never happens.  When I go (Hannaford) I make my list in order of the aisles.  So, off we went.  I normally zip right through but Joe was taking his time, looking at every little thing and every detail.  It was annoying but I was trying to use patience because, like I said, Joe never shops with me.  So down each aisle we went.  We shopped and shopped and finally (finally) were finished and went home.  We made it home w/o incident until.....Joe started venting (while laughing) that he had something all over his sneakers.....turns out, it was the dishwashing liquid we bought (blue) and the cap popped off and leaked out, onto Joe's sneakers and through the house was a nice little trail of...well, blue sticky liquid.  We laughed about it.  In fact, I haven't laughed that hard in several days.

So, my shopping trip with my husband, along with the gorgeous rainbow we saw on our way to Hannaford, was a lovely evening for me....and I wanted to share.

Purses!!!

Oh, hello.  Didn't I mention I am obsessed with purses?  I LOVE PURSES!!  I usually get tired of a new purse after a few weeks and either keep it in my "purse box" in my closet for later use, or I lend or give them to my mother or friends.  This purse is one I recently purchased for $8.00.  I normally am not a leopard print person (Hope M. ~ we had this conversation didn't we??) but I just HAD to have this one!!

Raindrops are fallin' on MY head....

Do you ever say "did you feel that?" when a rain drop falls on you?  I said that today and my stepdaughter replied "just because you felt a rain drop doesn't mean I did".  Hmmm, I never thought of that.  I felt one rain drop but she felt none.  Lesson learned.....we should think before we speak.

To Save a Buck....

No, not save a Buck, like deer, but a dollar.  Yeah well let me tell you, there are some things you should NOT buy cheap.  Today I bought razors at Dollar General.  They had the SAME razors that I always buy (BIC Soleil) for about the same price at Walmart (+/-$5.00) but for $2.00 LESS, I could get the generic brand.  WELL.....that didn't turn out so well.  Not only am I going to have to use 2 razors per leg, but I have RAZOR BURN people!!  So you see, I saved a couple of bucks but am itchy/stingy and annoyed and will end up spending MORE money in the long run because in like 2 days, I'll have to buy new razors.

Garbage bags are another thing you should not go generic on.  Stick to HEFTY or GLAD.

Before my Coffee....

Mmmmm there is NOTHING like waking up at 5:45am to walk the dog (an energetic Border Collie, mind you) BEFORE having coffee; then getting home to step IN cat puke BEFORE having coffee.  Finally GETTING coffee and spilling it on your shirt therefore causing you to change your shirt BEFORE having coffee.  Happy Monday everyone!!

Homeade Dog Biscuits

These biscuits are easy to make!  I make a double batch and freeze half and put the other half in a container.

Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup of peanut butter
1-1/4 cup hot water

Mix flour and oats.  Add peanut butter and hot water.  Mixing with your hands is the best way to get a good texture (add more flour if texture is too sticky).  Once all ingredients are mixed together, make whatever shapes you want (I usually roll out the dough with rolling pin and cut out cute shapes).  Bake at 350 deg for 30-40 minutes; let cool.

Hope your dog enjoys!  Tip:  You can try them too....they're just a little bland!

Tip of the Day

When you run out of Swiffer pads, take Lysol wipes, put them down on the floor, place your feet on the wipes, and skate around the room.  You will look and feel silly, but the job will get done!

Stuff

I guess for my first post, I'll tell you a few things:

1.  It is NOT cool to try to race a Border Collie....I will tell you, you will LOSE.  I don't care if you're a runner in the Boilermaker....I don't care if you're super fast like the runners from Kenya...you never, EVER....EVER....win in a race against a Border Collie.

2.  On a daily basis, I see more poop than the average person.  My dog (poopin' on the lawn); my cats (3 litter boxes); and my daycare (poop in the potty, poop in the diapers, and well...sometimes poop in the pants!).  I LOVE POOP!!

That's about all I have to say for my first post.  Hope you enjoyed!
