Friday's Favorite Fives

I haven't done this in awhile but I've had a rough week and forced myself to stay positive and count my blessings. Along with doing that, I've come up with five of my favorite things for this week!!!   Please join in by linking up over at Susanne's or sharing one of your blessings in the comment section.

Cleaning/Re-Organizing My Kitchen
Yes, that sounds nerdy BUT it needed to be done and I feel very accomplished. My daycare kids all napped at the same time and I cleared the counters and scrubbed the counter tops, then rearranged things to my liking. I even scrubbed the refrigerator and microwave!! I love my kitchen now!

OH MY GOODNESS YES I have COOKING as one of my faves! Everyone who knows me knows that I am not the best in the kitchen. I used to be able to bake pretty well, but lately that's not turning out successfully. As for dinner, well my husband was the cook in the family and I appreciated that. However, Joe has been busy with a wood working project he was hired for, and I have been making the dinners. I have to say, not only have I been 90% successful (I have to burn SOME things a couple times a month or it wouldn't be me, lol) and I kind of enjoy it! My best is meatloaf!

Good Book
I recently finished a book by Lisa Scottoline called Look Again. I love her novels. I began reading from this author after reading a book review awhile back by my friend, Faith (visit her site at Great story, didn't drag and I couldn't put it down. I love a good book!!

I have a home daycare and I give piano lessons three nights a week. My normal work week is 10-11 hours per day and naturally I am exhausted by 5:30pm. This week, I have been allowing myself to rest. After my final daycare kid or piano student leaves for the evening, I shower, make/eat dinner, then curl up either on the couch or in bed with a book and REST. My body needs it, my mind needs it, my soul needs it. And I am thankful for it.

Best Friend Time
My favorite hasn't happened yet but must be included. On Saturday, I am heading out to one of my best friend's house (the bff who lives IN state, the other lives in CA) for a day/overnight of fun and laughs and chill time!! We plan on heading to the mall, getting dinner (and I'll try a Margarita for the first time ever...yes, I'm in my 30's and never had one) and then chill at her house and watch chick flicks while drinking wine and eating chocolate. I need this girl time!!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! What are some of your faves from this week?

Did You Know Part II

A few more things you may not know
about me...............

I cannot stand to paint. I have no idea why but I've never liked to paint....walls, canvas, paint-by-number, hate it all!!

I love the smell of books, especially old books! I can barely keep my nose out of them!

Moss freaks me out.  Won't touch it, don't even like to look at it!

I am afraid of taking baths. I blame it on the movie “It” based on the book written by Stephen King. The clown comes up through the bathtub drain....I think while someone is showering. Anyway, I'm not 5 and I understand that cannot happen but still.........just thinking of taking a bath freaks me out!

What's Your Hurry?

It seems that now more than ever, people are in a huge hurry to get somewhere! Whether in the grocery store or driving a car, people rush rush rush! And it's annoying.

I'll admit, I tend to rush while grocery shopping. I mean, lets face it, who wants to dawdle in the store? Get in, cash out, get out! But I don't run anyone over with my shopping cart (purposely) or cut in front of someone in line or even sigh dramatically when the person in line ahead of me is slower than molasses! Nope, I'm not rude. But I do get in and out quickly, kindly and safely.

Driving is another story. Will racing past me, then cutting in front of me just to race past the other person to then cut in front of them really get you to your destination any faster? I've observed that more people who do that aren't that much ahead of me once we hit a stop light or have to slow down due to entering a town. So whats' the hurry? If you get a speeding ticket or in an accident then guess what, you're REALLY going to be late.

Several years ago, while in Tennessee, we stopped at a Walmart store. We were there for a specific purpose and I planned on getting in and out. However, their store layout was different than the one I am used to at “home” so I had to ask someone to direct me. BOY was she slow. She was super friendly but took her time and in her southern drawl said “Now, let me want aisle {whatever} and then turn...then....and then...and there you are.” Took her about 6 minutes to tell me that and then she decided just to show me herself. Which took 10 minutes. To walk. Five aisles away.

Southerners do not rush. We observed that. New Yorkers rush. Not just the city of New York but upstate New Yorkers as well. Don't we? Why?? What is our hurry? Why can't we be like the southerners and SLOW DOWN. Enjoy life!!! Stop and smell the roses?

Life is short. Isn't that a famous quote? Life CAN be short. You don't know what is going to happen in an hour, let alone tomorrow. So enjoy today while you can. Spend an extra few seconds hugging a loved one, or a few minutes calling someone just to say “hello”. Take your time driving because you probably won't get there much sooner than the person you raced past and risked both of you getting into an accident. Whatever you're in a hurry for will still be there whether you get there in 5 minutes or 25 minutes.

So............SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
